October is Respect Life Month. Jesus Christ teaches through our Catholic Church, "Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception...
We, the Catholic Bishops of Missouri, are committed to protecting the sanctity of human life in every circumstance and every stage of development In Missouri,
Some years ago, as lowly associate pastor, I had a particularly rough situation at one of my parishes. To go to our bishop of the time would put a lot of people in a very ugly position.
It is The Great Commission.
Jesus told His disciples: “Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands that I have given you. And be sure of this, I am with you always, even to the end of the world.” Matthew 28:19-20
We will begin RCIA or OCIA on October 6 at 10:00 am at St Francis Borgia. We used to call it the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, but now we call it the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults.
Our Lord is unequivocal. “Amen, amen I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day” (Jn 6: 53-54)—the reason why the celebration of the Mass, the Eucharist, is so critical.
As we start the school year our Parish School has a focus of building a Faith Foundation. In construction it is obvious, you need a good foundation for a house. Perhaps it works like that for people as well.
In Matthew 25. Jesus talks about judging the Nations. Let me quote some of this chapter . "Then the King will say to those at his right hand, Come O blessed of my Father , inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world, for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink , I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me. I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me...
Why are we even having this Eucharistic Congress? I could answer this in a lot of ways but I will just quote from paragraph 1324 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. "The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life..........
From the Pen of Father Tim -
In the biography of St. Bernadette Soubirous, the author explained that there was nothing unusual about St. Bernadette’s piety. By this I mean that she was not like a St. Padre Pio or a Mother Mariana de Jesus Torres whose piety included extraordinary acts that most ordinary people can not or are unable do.
Every once in a while, I hear someone say, "I don't drink the wine at Mass" or something similar. Please remember that we consume the Blood of Christ, not wine.
