8th Grade Updates:
8th Grade Prolife Trip Fundraiser Breakfast at Miller's Grill
October 23, 2010
8:00 - 10:00
Oct. 12, 2010
Dear SFBGS Pro-Life Crew:
I know we are working on the Miller’s Grill breakfast right now (hopefully, everyone received the letter and tickets that Jennifer Hill sent home with the kids on Friday), but we have to give some thought to the Fifth Friday Fish Fry (say that 10 times!) we are working on October 29th, too.
This is an easy fundraiser for us, since Kathy Meyer and her crew do all the leg work and the cooking. It was so nice of the church to dedicate this fundraiser to the Pro-Life Trip! Please try to sign up for a shift if you are available by replying back to me. Once we have the volunteers lined up, I’ll send out the schedule and a few more details about the dinner. We’ll want to encourage our friends and family to attend.
FYI- The 8th graders have a link where we’ll try to remember to post all of our correspondence for easy referencing. (Under the School tab, go to Parent Information and you’ll see the “8th Grade Updates” link.) Thanks again for all your time. Kim Voss

Dear Pro-Life Group:
The Pro-Life group always gets matching hoodies for the trip. We wear them every day of the trip so we can locate each other quickly. It’s also nice just for an extra layer of warmth. As you saw in the Thursday folder, Home & School is selling hoodies as a fundraiser. I’ve asked them if it would be possible to order hoodies for just the pro-life group in the opposite colors than are being offered to the rest of the school. In other words, ours would be gold with blue lettering. I’ve seen a picture of the hoodies and they look very acceptable, in my opinion. I do think the kids would have no problem wearing them for years to come. (See the H & S note in the Thursday folder posting on the sfbgs.org website for more info.)
So, what I’d like to do is order a hoodie for every student going on the trip and for any chaperone who would like one. I will take care of placing the order with Home & School and will add the $20 cost/hoodie onto your Pro-Life bill. I still do not have an exact cost per person for the trip, but I think we will have no problem coming in at or below $175, even including the $20 hoodie.
Home & School has asked all the school families to purchase at least $40 in merchandise (or a $20 buyout). This hoodie will count as $20 towards that $40 in merchandise or $10 towards the $20 buyout. So… Just to be clear – Do NOT order a hoodie for your 8th grader on your own separate form. The order for our group will be placed by me. You do NOT need to send in $20. I will pay for the hoodies out of the money collected for the trip. This amount will be included in the final amount you will owe for the Pro-Life trip.
What I would like for you to do is email me with the size for your child’s hoodie and if you’d like one for an adult, please let me know the size on that one, too. Please tell me the name of the person who will receive the hoodie along with the size. Also, for an additional $4 charge, you can have a name imprinted on the back of the hoodie. If you want this done, please let me know the name you’d like on the back along with the size you need.
I’d like to have everyone’s order by Friday, October 15th.
Thanks for your help. Kim Voss
Hoodie Sizes: Youth Large (14-16); Adult: Small, Medium, Large, XL, 2XL, 3XL (Note: There is an extra $2 charge for the 2XL and 3XL.)
P.S. Probably a good idea to get your child a flu shot this year. It’d be a bummer to miss the trip due to an influenza that could have been avoided.
P.P..S. – We officially have 19 (or 20 – still waiting on a PSR confirmation) girls, 19 boys, Mr. Branson, and 19 parents attending the trip. My next email will be to the chaperones in regards to transportation. I will need to find out who is planning to fly so we know if the rest will fit on the bus.
Dear 8th grade parents:
If you are planning to attend the Pro-life trip as a chaperone and you have not already met the SEP compliance (attended the Protecting God’s Workshop, background check, …), Debbie Williams has included the necessary information and paperwork in your child’s Thursday folder. Please look for it tonight.
Also, we need to determine the exact number of students and adults attending the Pro-Life trip. If you have not already given a definite answer, please let me know by Monday, September 13th if you and/or your child plan to attend. Remember there is a $50 deposit due by September 30th for each person attending.
One more note for those who couldn’t attend the parent meeting: If the cost of the trip is preventing you from sending your son or daughter, please see Mr. Branson. We don’t want anyone to be left behind because of financial reasons. All discussions would be kept strictly confidential.
Thanks, Kim Voss
